Bike Handle Adapter

To learn about what each of the above icons represents, please refer to the Device Ratings Guide.

BikeHandleAdapter

Designer: David Bulnes

Description:

Simple adapter to allow for steering a bicycle handlebar more comfortably. It allows for the coupling to "fail" in case of a fall, disconnecting itself from the handle when pushed too far to the sides with some strength, like in an accidental fall. The design also does not restrict the driver from removing his limb from the device in case of a fall or crash.

Hi, @Rosemary Astheimer. Unfortunately, I don’t have any experience with this design, so I don’t have any specific scaling advice. But if you take some measurements from your daughter’s wrist/limb, you can then take measurements of the interior of the socket for this design by using the measure tool in Meshmixer (a free download). From that, you can determine how much to scale it up or down with a little math. If you post something in our main forum, you’ll probably find volunteers who are willing to assist you.

@Jon Schull, @Ben Rubin, @Bob Rieger, it looks to me like the designer who submitted this (David Bulnes) does not have an account on the Hub. We may want to consider a requirement that designers have an active account on the Hub in order to have their designs listed in the catalog. Makes it much easier for users to get support.

@Jeremy Simon @Ben Rubin @Jon Schull I agree, Jeremy. If we feature a design on the Hub, the creator should be a (active) member to assist with questions and support. However, one question…how did the Bike Adapter design get added to our list of devices in the first place?

Hi all, I am the creator of this device. I was quiet sad of not seeing anything happening here. And just today I saw this comments. I believe I created an account to upload it, I am registered as a device assemblerin e-nable and have or had 1 badge so I did had an account. And then I shared the link to the group I was working with in Poland. I had to create a new account today to be able to reply to these comments. So I do not know what happened. Anyhow, I am available for any comment, suggestion and more than happy to help!. @Rosemary Astheimer if you still have any question about two years later let me know!

Hello @Rosemary Astheimer
I would also suggest sharing this question in the main forum, perhaps with a link to this page. There are many others who have experience making this device who would be happy to help!

I have also invited you to the Device Pilot Space - we host monthly meetings that are open for e-NABLE community members who have limb differences and have interest in piloting an open source device. We will explore how different devices work to perform daily needs, improvements to designs, inspiration, and ways members are contributing their insights to community efforts. I can invite you to the next meeting if you’re interested!

Good point, @Bob Rieger! New designs get submitted from this page. That page used to be public, so you didn’t have to be logged into the Hub to access it. I just changed it so it’s no longer public, so in order to submit a new design, you’ll have to be logged into the Hub.

@Jeremy Simon I won’t charge you for my QA services! 😉 But thanks for the suggestion to post in the main forum, I have a couple of responses with suggestions to consider.
